Catching Moments & Making Moves: Q2, My Way
Whew.
Back in my Q1 recap reel, I ended by saying, “We’re leveling up.”
Well, we sure did.
From blog launches to music festivals, from hands-on experience to real talk lessons in boundaries, Quarter 2 didn’t come to play. It came to stretch me, grow me, and remind me why I started in the first place.
Let’s break it down.
The Blog Almost Didn’t Happen…
Let’s start with a little confession: I almost didn’t launch the blog.
Imposter syndrome kicked in hard.
I kept thinking: Who’s even gonna read this? Am I even a writer? What if no one cares?
But one Monday morning while I was at work, I just said, “You know what? Post it.”
I had drafts sitting there, and I knew I had something to say. I knew I had stories that needed to be told, not just for myself, but for other creatives too.
Not just photographers, but anyone trying to navigate purpose, growth, and identity through the creative process.
Now here we are, seven blog posts in, and the feedback has been amazing.
The DMs, reposts, ratings, and messages from people who’ve seen themselves in my words?
That’s why I write. And I’m just getting started.
Hands-On and In It
This quarter gave me way more hands-on experience than I expected, especially coming back to St. Kitts after growing Cinntography in Barbados. Back home, I had to reintroduce myself. I wasn’t as visible, didn’t have a clientele built up, and honestly? It was humbling. But I didn’t let that stop me.
I offered to capture a Mother’s Day Brunch at Palms Court Gardens, not just for exposure, but because I believe every event holds a story worth preserving. It was a beautiful way to give their guests lasting digital memories of such a meaningful day.
It wasn’t paid, but I showed up like it was. Shot intentionally, edited with love, delivered on time. And guess what? A few weeks later, I got a call from them, a paid gig offer.
Lesson? Whether you’re getting a cheque or not, show up. Deliver excellence. Your name will be remembered.
Festival Season & Familiar Feelings
Then came St. Kitts Music Festival season.
Thanks to my internship, I had the chance to capture a press conference with regional and international artists, big names like Shenseea, KES the Band, and others.
It was surreal.
Being in the room, hearing them speak, seeing so many creatives all working in their element, it reminded me that I’m part of something bigger.
Then came the moment that hit different.
I got my second media pass, and I was able to officially cover one night of the music festival, one of the biggest in the Caribbean. I scoped the room, camera in hand… and it hit me:
I was the only female creative in the pit. Again.
In that moment, I felt pride and pain at the same time.
Pride because I made it here. Pain because why am I still the only one?
And then I had a conversation with a family member that brought everything into focus.
They said, “If you couldn’t handle it, God wouldn’t have put you there.”
Whew. That was all I needed.
I realized I wasn’t just there for me, I was there for the ones who haven’t arrived yet.
So I kept showing up. Because that’s what I do.
The Lesson in Every Detail
This quarter has been filled with the sweet and the sour.
There were tough client moments that taught me about boundaries and business, moments of silence that made me wonder if I was doing enough, and wins that reminded me I already am.
But I kept showing up, on location, on the blog, and behind the lens.
And every time I did, something shifted.
More eyes saw my work. More trust was built. More confidence was formed.
So, what did Q2 really teach me?
- Trust the gift and the God who gave it.
- Be excellent in all things, even when no one’s watching (yet).
- You’re not behind. You’re building.
- Your consistency is planting seeds you haven’t even seen sprout yet.
- And if the room wasn’t built for you, show up anyway.
Back in Q1, I said we were leveling up.
This quarter? We proved it.
Here’s to even more growth, grit, and grace in Q3.
